So, grab yourself a glass of wine and slip into something silky and comfy and let’s talk about how to transform your boring bedroom into a romantic boudoir.

But first, what the heck is a boudoir? Properly pronounced “boo-dwahr,” a boudoir, dates back to the Victorian era and the early 1900s, and it was a woman’s dressing room, bedroom, or private sitting area. It was mainly for the upper-class European women to withdraw to and is derived from a French adjective that translates to “pout” or “sulk.” So, can you imagine that? Upper-class women, retreating to their boudoir to pout surrounded by luxury – we can!

Despite its original intent, in our modern times, we can certainly relate. We all need a private sanctuary where we can go to unwind and escape in peace and comfort. So, let’s get to it!

6 Easy Ways to Transform Your Boring Bedroom into A Romantic Boudoir

If you’re stuck in the same-old, same-old routine in your bedroom, the problem may be the bedroom itself. Here are 6 easy ways you can spruce up (or spice up) your bedroom making it sexier and more inviting for intimacy.

Choose A Focal Point

For most, the focal point in any bedroom is the bed, and for good reason! It’s what gets the most action, and by action, we don’t just mean rolling around under the sheets fun. It’s where you spend a significant amount of time. From sleeping to folding laundry, your bed gets a lot of action. So, select a bed that has some personality and style to be the star of the room.

Luxury Bedding

Once you’ve selected a bed that fits your style, the next thing you need to do is to dress her in luxury bedding. First, of course, your boudoir transformation cannot be complete without having some silky and soft luxury linens. Luxurious sheets are step one, and then you’ll need a beautiful duvet, the perfect pillows, and decorative throw pillows as well. But don’t get sucked into buying one of those matching bedroom sets. There’s nothing sexy about them!

And most designers would probably agree that the matching bedroom sets make your space less visually appealing and outdated. However, the boudoir look is not for minimalists, so choose assorted pieces to deliver incredible visual impact.

And don’t skimp on the sheets! Your sheets touch your body the most, so don’t buy cheap sheets. Instead, you want to splurge and get sheets that give you an Aaah feeling when you slip into bed. Silk sheets are what most people think of, but sheets with a high thread count or sateen sheets can be silky to the touch as well. Just steer clear of polyester sheets – there’s nothing sexy about them!

Soften The Lighting

The key to mastering the boudoir style is in the lighting. Lighting is essential in any bedroom, especially in a room meant to conjure sexiness. Consider putting dimmers on all the lights to help set the mood. And also have different lighting options for interest. Wall sconces, table, and floor lamps are a great way to adjust how much lighting you have in your boudoir.

Paint The Walls

Purple is said to be the “sexiest” bedroom color, so if you aren’t afraid of color, go for it! And you don’t have to paint the entire room. Instead, you can simply have a feature wall.

Declutter

You know all that stuff that sits on top of your dresser for months at a time, find a home for it, or throw it away. There’s nothing sexy about clutter.

Get Provocative

Complete your bedroom transformation by adding some pictures. There are few things that are sexier than a woman’s body, so to complete your boudoir, frame some nude photos and hang them. Of course, you’ll want to get tasteful nudes, and they don’t have to be of you! There are beautiful iconic prints of Marilyn Monroe that you can purchase. She’s the epitome of female empowerment, confidence, and sexy!
